Strong app, infrequent sync, needs documentation and task export
I’ve used ToDo for iOS for years, with Toodledo on the back end. Recently I switched entirely to ToDo, using ToDo.app for iOS and ToDo Cloud for OS X. I rarely use the web app now, but it is the only place to see completed tasks.
I see occasional sync errors, so far limited to completion status and perhaps date changes. The last updates have helped align counts and attributes between the OS X and iOS versions. A remaining problem is that sync is every few hours, so it’s easy to edit on the desktop, forget to sync, and edit old data on iOS. I have learned to manually invoke sync frequently on both devices.
Projects are not fully realized. In OS X it’s weirdly awkward to add a new task to a project. This should be a simple context menu or icon action. I keep thinking I’m missing something.
There’s no Help file or documentation (typical modern curse), only a link to a web site FAQ. A search on “subtask” has no relevant hits and a search on “project” has almost none. This is unfortunate; it impairs use of the product. I’m positive there are valuable features I’ve not yet discovered (example: Drag and Drop is used extensively). This alone knocks off a half-star, would be a full-star but few are any good at documentation now.
I would recommend purchase except that Appigo still does not provide a way to export Tasks or create a local archive of completed tasks. That’s a real issue, and despite many user requests Appigo hasn’t responded. I don’t think there going to do it. If you adopt Appigo ToDo there’s no exit, and if they go out of business your tasks and projects will be stranded in the local SQLite dabase. (Yes, there are browsers, but I think Appigo’s time stamp is proprietary.)
